Call for Papers and Presentations
Festival 500, in cooperation with Memorial University of Newfoundland, invites proposals for presentations at The Phenomenon of Singing International Symposium VIII. This highly acclaimed symposium is an integral academic component of Festival 500. Its purpose is to gather international expertise and provide a forum for interdisciplinary discourse and performance, the dissemination of research and the generation of further knowledge relating to the phenomenon of singing. The Symposium invites submissions relating to all aspects of singing and the voice.
Proposal submissions should consist of a 250-300 word abstract addressing the phenomenon of singing in focus areas such as artistic, physiological, cultural, sociological, historical, pedagogical, psychological, compositional… and beyond! Submissions relating to the Symposium’s sub theme The Power of Song are encouraged.
A diversity of presentation formats is welcome. These could include research paper presentation, lecture-demonstration, lecture-recital, panel and/or roundtable discussions and poster presentations. Standard presentations are generally 20-minutes in length, followed by a 10-minute discussion period. Selected papers will be published in the Symposium Proceedings.
Proposal submissions are due October 15, 2010. All submissions will be anonymously reviewed by an international selections panel; presenters will be notified of acceptance by Nov. 15, 2010. With your submission please include full name, mailing address, institutional/organizational affiliation (if applicable), phone and e-mail contact information. Proposals may be submitted by mail or e-mail.
