Performance Opportunities

There are many opportunities for choirs to perform during the week. All choirs participate in the massed Youth or Adult Projects and selected choirs will take part in the World of Music concerts. Other opportunities to perform include Concerts in the Afternoon, Noteable Lunch concerts and Sunday Church services.

World of Music Concerts

At the heart of FESTIVAL are the World of Music concerts. Choirs performing at these concerts have the opportunity to perform an individual 25 minute program and will participate in a massed performance of two works under the direction of Iwan Edwards and/or Javier Busto. Choirs will prepare these works prior to festival attendance and will rehearse en masse with the guest conductor. In addition, rehearsal time for each choir, in the performance venue, will be provided on the day of performance.

Massed Choir Projects

FESTIVAL 500 offers the exciting opportunity to sing in a huge choir with a full symphony orchestra! In 2007, this opportunity will include the Massed Adult Choir (SATB voicing) under the direction of Celso Antunes and the massed Youth Choir (SSAA voicing) under the direction of Lyn Williams. Choirs with other voicings (e.g. TTBB can also participate in these massed choirs. Both massed performances will be presented at the Grande Finale concert along with our guest performers (Anuna and Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers) to an audience of 4000. Choirs must indicate their intention to participate on the registration form.

Additional Performance Opportunities

  • Concerts in the Afternoon
FESTIVAL 500 presents a series of afternoon concert venues in downtown St. John’s church venues. Choirs will normally perform a 20 minute program as part of a full concert program.
  • Noteable Lunch Concerts
Choirs can take part in more informal lunchtime concerts that are held in public spaces throughout St. John’s where people gather during their lunch hour. These concerts are planned as an a cappella singing experience and choirs must provide any required equipment.
  • Church Services
Choirs can perform in services at local churches on Sunday July 1 and/or Sunday July 8, 2007. Choirs are encouraged to take part and to bring their own form of worship to the service. This initiative is a very popular performance option. Choirs are in great demand and the congregations enthusiastic.

Please indicate interest in these options on your application form.
